OKLAHOMA WOMEN IN HISTORY

An Oklahoma  Centennial Project

A Showcase for the Future

The permanent exhibit will allow the “ladies” to be staged (quite literally) in miniature theater settings of scenes from around Oklahoma.

Dr. Angie Debo

A combination of both large and small stages complete with scenery and lighting will depict scenes such as the State Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion, the Marland Mansion, the gardens at Philbrook Museum in Tulsa, proscenium settings for the 5 Indian ballerinas, the 5 Miss Americas, and the 5 Miss Indian USA’s, as well as early territorial scenes as needed.  Richard Ellis, noted New York stage designer, will create these settings.

An estimate of 2,000-3,000 square feet for the permanent museum settings will allow visitors, especially whole classes of school children, to see Oklahoma history in a three dimensional historical setting…and see these Oklahoma women in backgrounds appropriate to their era and their stories.

This grouping will be quite unique; there is only one other exhibit in the United States that uses this method of presentation… Oklahoma’s will be the only one teaching it’s own unique history.

You have had the opportunity to hear about this fascinating project and perhaps you have thought of and envisioned a person who should be honored by being included there.
